UGC NET Selection Process
The UGC NET selection process is very simple and will have only one level i.e. written examination. Those who qualify for the written examination will be considered for final selection. As per the UGC NET examination scheme, there will be a single paper with two sections.
The first section will have questions from Teaching and Research Aptitude. Whereas, section two will have questions from the subject opted and will candidate’s domain knowledge. The UGC NET examination will be held in the online mode and will be held for 3 hours. The paper will be conducted in English and Hindi language.
Assistant Professor
- Candidates who qualify under the ‘appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.’ category will be eligible for both Assistant Professor positions and admission to Ph.D. programs, but they will not be eligible for the award of the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).
- On the other hand, candidates qualifying under the ‘admission to Ph.D. only’ category will be eligible solely for admission to Ph.D. programs, without eligibility for the JRF or appointment as Assistant Professor.
- Candidates who qualify for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) are admitted to Ph.D. programs based on an interview, in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022.
- The UGC NET results for category-2 and category-3 can serve as an alternative entrance test for Ph.D. admissions, replacing the entrance tests conducted by various universities and higher education institutions (HEIs).
- For candidates qualifying under category-2 and category-3, the evaluation will consist of 70% weightage from the NET scores and 30% weightage from the performance in the interview or viva voce conducted by the respective University or HEI. Ph.D. admissions will be based on the combined merit of NET scores and interview marks.
- The NET scores for candidates in category-2 and category-3 will remain valid for one year from the date of the UGC-NET result declaration for the purpose of Ph.D. admissions.
