UGC NET Exam: The National Testing Agency in association with UGC conducts the UGC NET examination for candidates. The examination is conducted for candidates looking for a career as an Assistant Professor, JRF (Junior Research Fellow) or admission to a PhD. UGC NET is typically held twice a year in June and December cycle. Candidates have to qualify for UGC NET eligibility and selection process to appear for the examination. Upon qualifying, candidates are awarded certificates for the respective posts. What is the UGC NET Exam? The UGC NET Exam also known as National Eligibility Test, is a national-level examination. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The examination is held to determine the eligibility of candidates for the role of Assistant Professor and for awarding Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. The UGC NET is held twice a year, typically in June and December. The exam assesses candidates’ knowledge of their chosen subjects and general aptitude. Who Conducts UGC NET Exam? The National Testing Agency conducts the UGC NET examination on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The examination is conducted for 85 subjects online. Candidates who qualify for the written examination by securing marks more than the minimum cut off marks are considered eligible for the role of Assistant Professor and JRF.  UGC NET Eligibility Criteria  The commission has prescribed the UGC NET eligibility that has to be furnished by candidates willing to apply for the examination. Go through the section below to know about more details of NET eligibility.  Age Limit Candidates can refer to the table below to know about the UGC NET Age limit for both categories.  Category Age Limit JRF (Junior Research Fellow) The candidate’s age should not be more than 30 years.  Assistant Professor There is no upper age to apply for the examination Educational Qualification Candidates who possess the UGC NET educational qualification are eligible to apply for the examination.  Category UGC NET Educational Qualification JRF (Junior Research Fellow) Candidates must have secured 55% marks in a Master’s degree from a recognised university.The candidates qualifying in the NET, based on a four-year undergraduate degree, will be eligible for the award of the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for admission to the Ph.D. The candidates qualifying in the NET, based on a four-year undergraduate degree, will not be eligible for appointment as Assistant Professor.  Assistant Professor PhD Candidates must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in their Master’s degree or an equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC.For candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PWD), a minimum of 50% marks is required. UGC NET Selection Process The UGC NET selection process is very simple and will have only one level i.e. written examination. Those who qualify for the written examination will be considered for final selection. As per the UGC NET examination scheme, there will be a single paper with two sections.  The first section will have questions from Teaching and Research Aptitude. Whereas, section two will have questions from the subject opted and will candidate’s domain knowledge. The UGC NET examination will be held in the online mode and will be held for 3 hours. The paper will be conducted in English and Hindi language.
